Our Mission

FCCAN's mission is to create community based on furthering economic, social, and environmental justice; sustainability; human rights; and peace for all by building coalitions, developing strategies and actions, and supporting existing progressive organizations.

Our Story

The Fort Collins Community Action Network (FCCAN) is a solid grassroots organization comprised of independent affiliates.

FCCAN has been a driving force in Northern Colorado’s progressive movement for over eighteen years; many of its members have been active for over twenty years.

During that time, we have seen Northern Colorado experience dramatic changes due to growth, development, and shifts in the economic and social bases. We have also seen the rise of single issue groups with limited resources and moderate success at coalition building. FCCAN has provided cohesion to these community efforts.

Working together, we have created a viable community-oriented center with diverse leadership and participation that serves as an organizational vehicle for democratic and populist activism.

FCCAN is operated by a volunteer Spokes Council (our board of directors), staff, interns, and affiliates who have their own steering committees.

FCCAN was incorporated in Colorado in December 2000 as The Center for Justice, Peace, and Environment and was established as a not-for-profit tax-exempt organization in December 2001. In December of 2011, we changed our name to the Fort Collins Community Action Network (FCCAN).

Our Values

Joy

We celebrate and express joy as a beautiful, irresistible, undeniable, human part of connecting with life as we work to dismantle oppression.

Community

Our collaborative structure, based on the ancestral wisdom of cooperation, emphasizes interconnectedness that guides our work and builds our collective power in the face of isolation, ruthless competition, and divide-and-conquer tactics.

Stewardship

We are responsible for stewarding the resources entrusted to us, including the land we occupy and the financial resources that support equity and social justice in our community.

Adaptability

In response to important differences in community needs, we accommodate as best we can as we work alongside our community while holding our goals and vision.

Justice

A foundational motive behind all the work that we do; we seek restoration, reparation, and restitution because we see, feel, hear, and experience the injustices of society. Justice actively pursues the dismantling of oppressive systems and centers the integrity, health, and sacredness of all life.

Integrity

We take responsibility for our impact and choose to become the best versions of ourselves, to heal, and to be in healing relationships with others by shifting dominant culture and transforming unjust conditions.

Accountability

We act ethically toward one another inside and outside the organization by recognizing our inherent right to be in process and to lovingly hold each other, allowing mutual growth and transformation.

Resilience

As we work towards equity and social justice, we garner strength from our setbacks because they help us learn. Despite these inevitable challenges, we continue to work toward our goals and acknowledge that embracing our failures moves us forward in our vision.

Creativity

We identify solutions to the obstacles we encounter by encouraging new ways of thinking and being as we work through problems together.

Love

The most powerful expression of our shared humanity, love opens possibilities for all that we are and how we can be together. Our love for all people provides the motivation for the justice we seek and the work we do.
