Colorado fossil fuel divestment efforts & how you can take action

Salon duc Tape is back, after a one month hiatus! At the salon on February 28thDeb McNamara of 350 Colorado will discuss fossil fuel divestment.  Deb writes, “Fossil fuel divestment is one strategy among many that make up a holistic approach to addressing the climate crisis, with over $14 trillion committed away from fossil fuels since the divestment movement took hold just a decade ago. We’ll discuss what’s happening globally per the economics of climate change including taking a look at fossil fuel subsidies, and the role of Wall Street banks, insurance companies and pension funds in funding fossil fuel projects and infrastructure. We’ll also discuss what you can do to take action, with a focus on local efforts underway here in Colorado including the Fossil Free PERA (Public Employees Retirement Association) campaign, Insure Our Future campaign and efforts underway (including forthcoming legislation) to promote public banking and fossil fuel divestment.”

Deb is the Campaign Coordinator for 350 Colorado, a non-profit building the global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis and transition to a sustainable future. She presently leads campaigns focused on fossil fuel divestment, keeping fossil fuels in the ground and promoting the transition to renewable energy. Deb studied Environmental Policy at Boston University and received a Master’s degree in Environmental Leadership from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. She also serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at Naropa University, where she teaches in the Environmental Studies Department.
