We’re Making History!

Fuerza Latina and other groups have been working on city protections for immigrants

(particularly undocumented immigrants) in Fort Collins. There is a City Ordinance to be

presented at City Council on May 16. Its goal is to offer clear guidelines to police and city employees and clear protection to immigrants by preventing police and city employees from asking about citizenship status. It also explicitly instructs police not to stop people based on their ethnicity or their perceived ability to speak English.

Ways to Help:

1) Attend City Council on May 16 to speak in favor: arrive at 5:45 at City Hall West, 300 LaPorte Ave to meet with the rest of us, get a sticker, and get organized for talking.

2) Follow up with letters/emails/phone calls to your City Council Representatives anytime after May 16—they will be deliberating on the ordinance after it is presented and will later vote on it, so keeping visible support is important.

3) Learn more about immigration issues and DREAMer experiences: public library

screening of documentary “The Dream Is Now” on May 18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

It is not a sanctuary city ordinance. It is an ordinance that increases our community trust and safety by preventing police and city employees from asking about citizenship status so that immigrants can report crimes and access vital health and safety services. This keeps all of our community safer.
